Q & A with GEMMA

a. Where are you from?

Stockton on Tees, England

b. Instagram name

@alilgem_fit4stage

c. What motivates you to train?

It's a great release from daily stresses and worries and provides some "me time" where there is nothing else to focus on but the current moment. I only started training in 2019 with the intention of competing in a bodybuilding show so that was my original motivation, but now I just love the challenge and the fact that my body is getting stronger each day both physically and mentally.

d. What’s your greatest success in lifting?

Getting an entry and winning the British BNBF Finals for figure and competing Internationally with the DFAC in Miami. What an experience!

e. What music do you listen to when training?

A huge random range of music as an example my current playlist includes Sterophonics - Vegas Two Times, Carmada - Ready for It, Little Mix - Motivate

f. Who is your bodybuilding inspiration?

Grace Jones. She is someone I admire hugely. She has such a balanced and open mindset both in competing and training and posts great advice to others. Her strength is incredible and she is genuinely one of the nicest girls I've ever met.

g. Do you have any shout outs or people you’d like to thank?

Definitely need to thank Kurt Maloney for introducing me to Topbodies Gym where Haj and Mani trained me and got me started on my journey into bodybuilding. Jasmine Tubridy for being such a great #gymbestie and Hayley Curnow for being such support throughout my first year of competing. Also a huge shoutout to the BNBF team for making my first competitive bodybuilding experience so great and Nigel Davis for his time and energy getting me stage-ready. And Michael Pattinson for his knowledge and humour in all things sports nutrition!
